Aztec Postclassic Girls

Description

This is a chart showing what Aztec girls wore ages 11-13. The first is a commoner girl ages 11-12 years old wearing clothes from maguey fiber. Her huipil and skirt are both tattered and uneven at the ends. This rough cut was probably common for girls not yet, skilled at weaving like their mothers. She holds in her hand a sweeper used to sweep around the house. Next to her is a girl her age, but wearing cotton clothing. Next to her is a Mexica teenager (aged 13), she has now honed her skills well enough to make a clean border on her skirt. However, her huipil is still rough along the border. In her hand is a 'mano' that is used with the metate to grind corn to make tortillas and other ground foods. At age 14 (not pictured here), the girl will have a clean border around her huipil and skirt. The outfits come from the Codex Mendoza.

Hi!
I though the girl holding the knife was a Priestess in training!
